Reflection: Seventh Grade

When I arrived at school (also know as prison, according to my brother) in August, I was expecting a whole year of do this and do that, but what I was really in for was, a year of actually learning something and maybe, just maybe, having a little bit of fun.

By October, my life in school was great. Eventually, I realized me thinking that it was going to be like prison, or absolute boringness was wrong. In my school year in seventh grade I learned lots of things, not just math or english, but that school wasn’t half bad. In school, you get the opportunity to make new friends, play sports, and have more fun in school then you think you would.

As the year comes to a close, I am happy I came to school and made a new friend. If I had to do the whole sevent grade over again, I would focus on my grades and not just if we are doling something boring or fun today. My advice for next year seventh graders is: seventh grade is definitely easier than you think it is.

Leadership

Being a leader can help other people that are struggling around you. A leader always chooses the right thing to do and when to do it. Anybody can be a leader if they believe in themselves and others around them. Lots of people were and still are leaders like Martin Luther King, Martin Luther King Jr., Michael Jordan, and many others. I look up to Michael Jordan because he led his team on to victory in the NBA championship multiple times.

A leader is something that you wish to be and want to be. When you are a leader you need to encourage others around to be their best. Michael Jordan and his team weren’t the best bunch on the court but when MJ stepped on the court they all felt that they were unstoppable and no team could defeat them. He was just nominated the best basket player ever for his talent, but also because they way he treated his teammates and his fans. He encouraged me to do my best in my basketball games and I always think that when I step on the court, nobody can ever stop me or my team

A leader isn’t always the best player on the court, field, or any place where you work as a team, but they are the best in believing in others.

They Called Him Rags

They called him Rags, he was just a cur
But twice on the Western Line,
That little old bunch of faithful fur
Had offered his life for mine.

And all he got was bones and bread
And the leaving of soldiers’ grub,
But he’d give his heart for a pat on the head,
A friendly tickle or rub.

And Rags got home with the regiment,
And then, in the breaking away–,
Well, whether they stole him, or whether he went,
I am not prepared to say.

But we mustered out, some to beer and gruel,
And some to sherry and shad,
And I went back to the Sawbones School,
Where I was an undergrad.

One day they took us budding M.D.’s
To one of those institutes
Where they demonstrate every new disease
By means of bisected brutes.

They had one animal tacked and tied
And slit like a full-dressed fish,
With his vitals pumping away inside
As pleasant as one might wish.

I stopped to look like the rest, of course,
And the beast’s eyes leveled mine;
His short tail thumped with a feeble force,
And he uttered a tender whine.

It was Rags, yes, Rags! who was martyred there,
Who was quartered and crucified,
And he whined that whine which is doggish prayer
And he licked my hand–and died.

And I was no better in part nor whole
Than the gang I was found among,
And his innocent blood was on the soul
Which he blessed with his dying tongue.

Well! I’ve seen men go to courageous death
In the air, on sea, on land!
But only a dog would spend his breath
In a kiss for his murderer’s hand.
And if there’s no heaven for love like that,
For such four-legged fealtly–well!
If I have any choice, I tell you flat,
I’ll take my chance in hell.

I enjoy this poem because it shows me how something so little can mean so much to a person.

My Memory

I’d been wrapped in the blanket since the time my parents gave to me. The smoothness and softness soothed my mind when I was frustrated as a small child. The day I got my soft red blanket was my favorite memory of my childhood. I still have the blanket folded up in my closet to […]

My City: Austin

My city, Austin, is bright, happy, and full of surprises. Walking through the streets of downtown Austin in always amazing, with cool shops on every corner and the nice breeze that flows down the streets feels great. The sidewalks are full of happy helpful faces saying ” How’s it going?” or ” What’s up?” always brings a smile to your face even on a bad day. Austin is also considered as the ” Musical Capital of the World” because every year we hold a huge concert with all of this years music stars. On the 4th of July they also have a big firework show, the fireworks are always exploding with majestic colors and shapes. Everywhere you go everything is green and alive, the trees, the grass, the flowers, especially the Blue Bonnet, are beautiful. In Austin, you will never feel down and alone, because no matter where you go, a friendly face will be just around the corner.

Offseason Days

I just recently ended my basketball season and have been moved into track and off-season. Off-season is THE hardest workout I have ever done. For some kids, who have been doing it for a while, think it is pretty easy. But I am new to off-season so it is hard for me and a couple kids from basketball. We do different workouts each day and the hardest one so far is the snake. The snake is when you go up on the football field and run the width of the field and then turn sideways and run up 5 yard and then you run the length of the field and so on. After we do a hard workout, sometimes our coach lets us play game in side like dodgeball.

In track, we come to the gym after school and you either go outside or stay inside with Coach Greaber to lift weights. I stay inside because if you do discus or shot put you lift weights to get your muscles stronger. Outside there is track events like hurdles, 100m sprint, and 200m sprint. I’m not much of a runner so that is why I do the throwing events. Track and off-season are both hard, but fun. I enjoy them because they will both help me get ready for football season.

Failure can Help You

Why do I fail at everything? I asked myself. Wait, maybe I can learn from my failures!

To start, your failures can prepare your for any challenges throughout your life. A failure will prepare you for next time you do something. For example, I missed a hard shot in a basketball game which would have been clutch. I can’t believe that I would miss a shot that would have been a game changer. After Missing the shot I went to my next practice knowing that I should practice the same shot. But still, as person of my skill, I should have made the shot.

Furthermore, your failures help you succeed the next time you try something you failed at. Another example is, I was at my basketball practice and I missed a layup. A layup! How could I miss such an easy shot? When I missed that layup it made me realize that I should practice more by myself. If you practice it will help you for next time.

Any mistake may make you feel like you are bad at everything. If you keep pushing forward in life, you will succeed! I always tell my friends when they get down from messing up that practice makes perfect!

My First 3 Pointer

At my game against Marble Falls I had my first 3 pointer. It was a very exciting moment for me and my family, my parents were very proud of me. On my basketball team, I play down low by the basketball hoop, but since we were beating the team so badly, my coach said I could move out to the 3 point line. My teammate Grayson was dribbling down the court and found me open in the corner. I received the pass from him in the corner and stepped up to shoot. Swish! My team goes crazy and cheer for me. I run down the court with my fists in the air pumping. That was a moment I will not forget in a very long time.

West Ridge Basketball part 2

Today we are playing the Hill Country Cougars for the second time. We are playing them at home and I have confidence that we can beat them. But if we think that just because they have David Neil or Blake Webster, we are going to lose. If we go 100% and try our hardest, we can beat this team. I will be guarding Blake Webster most likely and of we want to win, I need to shut him down. If my team all do their parts, we can win the game.

Basketball Season so Far

I am on the west ridge basketball A-team and our record so far is 1-4. We have fought hard in all of our games. Our next basketball game is against Hill Country on home court. I really want to beat them and show all the other teams that you don’t wanna mess with the WEST RIDGE WILDCATS!
